HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Black eyed peas with hog jowl is a Southern New Year Holiday tradition. Jowl comes from the cheek of the hog and looks, cooks, and tastes like bacon. My Dad and Mom used to say that if you eat black eyed peas and hog jowl on New Years Day you would have money all year long. The actual superstition says that pork represents luck and the peas represent pennies. Collard greens represent dollars and cornbread represents gold. Not fond of collards, so we are having pennies with luck and gold this New Years Day. We hope 2018 brings you lots of luck, pennies, and gold as well as good health and God's blessings. Happy New Year and we hope to see you often at Lonesome Pine Quilts in 2018!
