One of the most popular words in quilting today is OMBRE. The word Ombre is derived from the French word ombrer which means to shade. Ombrer, translated from the Italian ombrare and umbra, literally means ” to shade or shadow.” Its current definition, “having colors that shade into each other – used especially of fabrics in which the color is graduated from light to dark.” And that is what Ombre fabric does. It gradates from dark

along the selvage to light in the center creating a beautiful effect and beautiful quilting patchwork. Striking ombre fabrics feature a myriad of hues that all work beautifully together making them great for interesting borders, backgrounds, applique and patchwork.

A shipment of new Ombre fabrics has just arrived at Lonesome Pine Quilts, along with some absolutely striking patterns on how to use these beautiful Ombre fabrics. Continue to follow our blog for a list of summer classes....one of which is Ombre!!
