If you’re designing quilts, auditioning fabrics, or simply want to see how your quilt is coming along, a design wall is a great way to see a completed quilt top begin to emerge. Most of us have used a table or the floor to view the results of our sewing, but a design wall for quilting allows you to stand back and take a look at what’s happening as each block comes off the machine. Here are a few ideas you might consider for a design wall for your sewing room. #1--Tablecloth. If you don’t have a design wall, you can make a portable version by using the back of a flannel-backed vinyl tablecloth. Just hang it over a door or tack it to the wall with push pins. A flannel sheet works well also.

#2--Sliding Closet Door. If you have sliding closet doors, you can cover the outside of the door with a piece of batting with a piece of flannel on top.

#3--Cork board or canvas board. Cover an old bulletin board or a piece of artist canvas board with a thin batting covered with flannel. Staple the batting and flannel to the back and hang on your wall for a small version of a design wall.

#4--Plywood. For a larger and more permanent design wall, take a 4' x 8' piece of plywood and cover it with a thin layer of batting and top off with a piece of flannel. Staple to the back of the plywood and hang on your wall. This is the idea I used for my design wall and I love it!!

I hope you have enjoyed the 5 Monday blogs on how to Purge, Clean, and Organize a sewing room, and I hope it helps you to organize your own sewing space.
