In life we can lose or have taken away from us lots of possessions and even loved ones. But something that no one can ever take away is our memories. Wonderful, precious memories. One way to preserve those memories is a Memory Quilt. The most popular Memory Quilt is a T-Shirt Quilt. Many people make T-Shirt Memory Quilts out of their children's old sports T-shirts and give them as graduation gifts. But there are other kinds of Memory Quilts other than T-Shirt quilts.

Growing up, my mother always wore chenille house coats. On Christmas and birthdays, many times I would buy her a new one....most of the time pink. While going through her closet after she passed away, I found a few of her old pink chenille house coats. I cut around the worn out places and mixed the chenille pieces with some cottons and made a memory quilt. When I wrap up in that quilt, I always think of Mama.

More recently I made a Memory Quilt for a family member whose daughter was getting married. Mom and Dad wanted to take her little dresses she wore when she was little and make a Memory Quilt to give her as a wedding present. Some of the dresses were a little faded from several washings over the years, so I added some brighter fabrics to brighten up the colors and you can see the results from the picture. Mom and Dad (and the bride) loved it.

So don't throw away all those baby clothes and children's clothes. And don't just donate your loved ones clothes after they pass to Goodwill. Think about using them to make a Memory Quilt and wrap yourself in the warmth of your memories.
