Tuesday is May Day. Not a big deal in American culture, but it was a really big deal for a little country girl growing up on the farm. Because on May 1st, Mama would let us throw off the shoes and go barefoot. Yes, I'm a barefooter! Unlike 99.9% of women....I HATE shoes!! And I always have! While most women have 25 pair of shoes in their closet or more....I have a black pair and a white pair. Growing up I just couldn't wait until May 1st to throw off my shoes, and I still look forward to May 1st. Oh, I know....I'm a grown up and I could go barefoot anytime I want, but still after all these years I find myself waiting until May 1st....because Mama said. I guess some things you never outgrow. I'm a reader and I read an article once that talked about Earthing. It said that it is good to go barefoot, and sit on the grass, or lie on a rock because it "grounds" the body and extinguishes the negatively-charged electrons from the surface of the earth into the body where they neutralize positively-charged destructive free radicals involved in chronic inflammation. The article went on to say that the potential benefits from the earth's energy on the brain, heart, muscles, immune and nervous systems (and in turn the whole body and the aging process)are MASSIVE. In other words.....going barefoot is good for you! Now I have no clue if any of that is true, but Tuesday, May 1st, I'm going barefoot.
Happy May Day!
